Seeing The World Through The Eye Of My Lens

A Bit About Me

Photography is not something I do. A photographer is something I am. Landscapes and nature imagery are what draw me in. Carrying at least one, sometimes two cameras with me wherever I go allows me to be ready to capture any unexpected opportunities. There is no joy in being disabled. But through my disability, I have been able to see things differently; through the eye of a different lens so to speak. When things that once were become unattainable, finding a new path can be daunting. I didn't find photography, photography found me when I was most lost. It is quite simple, taking pictures brings me joy. Sometimes I can hear myself laugh out loud or even hum while shooting. Sunset is an exciting time of day. The wildlife all seem to be having that last-minute snack before they settle down for the night. Watching the sun sink into the horizon brings an end to the current day and great promise for the next. Gratitude is the emotion at that moment.

Watching the sky is an enjoyable pastime. The roiling clouds on a hot, hazy day begin my creative process. A looming storm can produce spectacular images. Distant thunder and cracks of lightning are a call to action. Whether it is a forecasted snowstorm or sudden tornado warnings, my camera is never far from hand.

Somebody called me a naked photographer. I was confused. Then they went on to explain that I have no tripod, no filters, no big lenses, no special equipment. It's just me and my camera. Then I laughed and told him I also have no professional schooling. It is all on-the-job training for me. I do what feels good and right. If it brings me joy, I hope that it will bring you joy as well. As an artist that is the greatest compliment I can hope for.
